What is Gompa Apartments?
Gompa Apartments is a small eleven unit apartment complex in Truth or Consequences NM, USA. We’re located on a quite street near the center of historic Truth of Consequences. We are close to many parks, shops, hot springs, and spas. We provide unique apartments for rent and some Airbnb spots for short term stays.
Truth or Consequences is a unique small city in southern New Mexico. It is relatively remote location not close to many other cities, and so it is able to maintain its own character. The Rio Grande runs through the city and because of the water source and large aquifer combined with volcanic and tectonic plate activity underground, there are natural hot springs in the down town area. This natural wonder has lead T or C to have a rich history of spiritual practice and healing, and for centuries indigenous peoples valued this area as a place of peace and restoration. Notably this land was a retreat area used by the medicine man, Geronimo. To this day there are many people from indigenous and non-indigenous lineages continuing to be in spiritual relationship with this unique place.
HOLISTIC HEALTH CENTER
In addition to the apartments, the property also has a three bedroom house that we are transforming into a holistic healing center and community acupuncture clinic. In addition to providing Asian medicine modalities and acupuncture, we have intention to have educational classes on diet and behavioral health and well being, art and awareness based self expression, and other subjects that contribute to the health and well being of the larger community in Truth or Consequences. We also wish to invite holistic health practitioners from around the world to come to the space to hold seminars and classes.
At this time we provide classes on preventive medicine and mind/body healing, and cooking classes. We also have classes on western and eastern psychology. In the future we hope to have massage therapy, acupuncture and other modalities of healing provided by professional therapists. In addition, due to our experience with solar and electric projects, we have aspirations to create a few Electric Bicycle/Scooter related non profits to help our transition from fossil fuels and also help people find productive ways to spend their time. Some of the inspirations for these non profit businesses are from psychological movements in Japan such as meaningful life therapy (opens in new window) and constructive living (opens in new window).
MUSIC THERAPY AND AWARENESS BASED EXPRESSIVE ARTS:
- Awareness based expressive arts: We sometimes do expressive arts practices some that we have trained at Naropa University. These practices are universal and beyond one cultural tradition.
- We hold degrees and licenses to practice Music Therapy, and can provide both one on one and group opportunities for music therapy experiences.
- Rehearsal and group meet up space: This town is filled with many arts, both traditional wall framed art, mural art, and also poetry song theater and dance. There are open mic nights and other venues downtown for performance, but we hope to be able to provide another space for meeting and rehearsal. A place open for experimental explorations of the artists. By having more places and group opportunities for artists to connect, we think the result will be more collaboration and mutual enrichment. We hope to inspire and grow from each other and thus further contribute to the unique culture of this wonderful town together.
LIFE SKILLS AND SUSTAINABILITY:
Applying our previous experimentations and experience in new sustainable technologies and mechanics, such as batteries, solar, and scooter and bicycle repair, we wish to cocreate a way to share and grow these technologies and at the same time to bring confidence and skill to people. The purpose is not only for us to adopt cleaner and better systems of transportation, and power managements but to understand all the processes behind them and gain confidence in our own abilities to work within our means. We hope to have weekends or scheduled events for what we call “meaningful life projects”. We hope these can be community building and also be mentoring opportunities for mindful work and psychological health for people who need to feel more purpose and confidence in their life management. We have in mind different areas such as ebike building, sustainable farming, off grid solar and more. Some of the inspirations for these "meaningful life project groups” are inspired by the work of Dr. Shoma Morita (1874–1938) and other more current offshoots from his work used in outpatient mental health services, one such therapy is called Meaningful Life Therapy and another is titled Constructive Living.
Where is Gompa Apartments and why visit Truth or Consequences?
Truth or Consequences NM, or T or C for short, is a small city about 2 hours south of Albuquerque, NM. Once known as Hot Springs, NM, Truth or Consequences is a small town with a year-round population of slightly more than 6,000. Although it has a large retirement population, it also features a beautiful historically senic main street with taverns, restaurants and shops. On its town website,Truth or Consequences calls itself a “resort town” because of its many hot springs and proximity to Elaphant Butte Lake which has beaches, sailing, and camping. Next to the town are a few mountains also said to have special powers. The Native Americans used to use T or C as a spot for healing and recovery. The natural hot spring have great mineal properties for relaxing and help to heal many ailments. The Rio Grande runs through the town and there is tubing and beautiful parks and places to enjoy nature. T or C is therefore a very unique spot. It's especially unique to have so much water features in the middle of the dry southern part of NM. (How did T or C get its name?)
